Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS 3.12 Firmware with Ultrasn0w
Earlier iPhone dev team has released the Pwnagetool to jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS 3.12 firmware. Before proceeding with the iphone 3G/3GS with 3.1.2 firmware ,unlocking process, it needs to be jaibreaked. After you have jailbreaked your iPhone 3G you can use Ultrasn0w tool to unlock it. So here are the steps.
How To Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS 3.12 Firmware with Ultrasn0w
- If you havent jailbreaked your iPhone, Follow this guide on How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS 3.12 Firmware
- Now go to Cydia and Choose Manage Tab.
- Select Sources, press Edit-Add and add the following address to it.
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ - Now search "ultrasn0w" in Cydia and install Ultrasn0w. After the Ultrasn0w installation of is completed on your iPhone, it will automatically unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS with 3.1.2 Firmware.

It really works.. thanks, but i have no net now :(
It seems to be unlocked as i can see my network name in the settings panel, but no network coverage is obtained yet. followed the process of jailbreak and then ultrasn0w. any suggestions?
It might be the problem of the firmware. If you have any problems try redoing the operation and unlock with ultrasn0w tool.
Will this work on a iphone 3gs which has been updated with a 3.12 OS?
If you havent Jailbreaked the iPhone properly 3G/3GS 3.12 Firmware, it might not work properly.

I followed the steps but still don't seem to have carrier signal with Vodafone NZ. The phone is definetely jailbroken as I can access Cydia/Icy etc.
does this work with the latest baseband?
I had jailbreaked it with blackrain and unlocked it as said in this page, but could not get the network list! Its not working. Plz advise.
@ Super Marine Try using any other network and see. If you have jailbroken your iphone successfully. Then it might be some other problem.
@rue i Think it might not work some times with base band 05.11.07. Any way try after taking a backup.
is there a backup applcation to backup the entire iphone? So if something goes wrong with unlocking i can restore alle the work i have done till now.
You can use the iTunes application to take the backup of important files in your iphone.
